Choosing Flake Floor Colors: Samples, Light and Texture

Choose From a Sample, Not Only a Screen

A Flake floor color should be chosen with the space and proposed system in mind. Online photos are useful references, but lighting, camera settings and screens can change how a blend appears. Ask DJ Epoxy Solutions which actual samples are available for your project.

Start the installation conversation through the Flake garage flooring service. This article is a selection checklist, not a catalog of guaranteed colors or custom combinations.

Bring the Finishes the Floor Needs to Work With

  • Photos or samples of cabinets, wall colors and adjoining floors.
  • A description of natural and artificial lighting.
  • A preference for lighter, darker or more contrasting blends.
  • Examples showing what you like and what you want to avoid.

Ask how the available blend looks with those finishes. A color name alone may not explain the appearance of all the pieces within it or the finish viewed across a larger area.

Compare the Proposed Sample in Context

Review a physical sample in the lighting that matters to your room when possible. Look at it near the adjoining finishes and from different viewing positions. Ask whether it represents the proposed blend and finished system or only part of the material selection.

Do not treat a website image as evidence that a particular blend is available, that a job was completed in a named city or that your finished floor will match the photograph exactly.

Keep Color and Texture Questions Separate

A color choice does not establish the floor’s texture, slip characteristics or suitability for a wet area. Ask what finish and texture are proposed for the actual use, and how they should be maintained.

Flake and chip refer to the decorative Flake option discussed in DJ’s Flake and Quartz system guide. Quartz is a different system; do not assume its materials, price or appearance are interchangeable with Flake.

Record the Selection in the Project Scope

Before installation, confirm the selected blend or sample reference, the complete system, the included area and any agreed appearance limitations. Confirm availability and project-specific terms with the installer rather than relying on an older online photograph.

System suitability and concrete preparation come before a decorative choice. Describe the existing floor and intended use during the estimate conversation.

Questions to Ask Before Choosing a Floor

Can I choose by an online photo alone?

Use it to explain your preferences, then ask to review the available samples and proposed system.

Does a lighter color guarantee a cooler outdoor floor?

No temperature performance is established by a color photograph. Discuss actual exposure and the technical information for the proposed system.

Is a sample an exact picture of every part of the finished floor?

Ask what the sample represents and what variation should be expected. Record the agreed selection and limitations.

Can I coordinate the look of my garage and patio?

Bring references for both areas and ask which available blends can work together visually. Each area still needs its own assessment of the concrete, exposure, finish and texture. A matching color does not establish that the same complete coating specification is suitable indoors and outdoors.
